We love to look back and relive special occasions that we have enjoyed at school. We have created a series of galleries which you can browse below.
Remembrance Day - 11 November 2021
On Thursday 11th November we held our Remembrance Day Assembly and paid our respects to those that have sacrificed so much for this country over the past 100 years. We discussed the reason for Remembrance Day, why we wear Poppies and the origins of the Remembrance Day as a ceremony in the UK. Our children have been working on Remembrance Art which were used to decorate our hall for our Remembrance Assembly and our Tree of Remembrance full of poppies was made by our Breaside pupils.
National Poetry Day
Thursday 7th October was National Poetry Day and to celebrate this, children were invited to write a poem about their dream day. We were amazed by the number of poems written and the quality of the writing talent that we have at Breaside. A HUGE thank you to all the children who took the time to compose a poem. Due to the superb poems written, we will also be putting together a booklet with all the children’s poems in. A copy of this will be in each of the classrooms and the library so the children can enjoy and celebrate each other’s work.
Congratulations to the winning poet from each year group who received a £10 book token for their fantastic poem. Mrs Wicks, Mrs Nicholson and Mrs Sheehan certainly did enjoy reading your poems! Lastly, a special mention to our youngest writers in the school. Four children from reception who also took the time to write a poem too. It was great to see that you are never too young to be a poet.
Many thanks again and happy reading.
Save Our Oceans
During the summer term our Year Two children have been working on ‘Saving our Oceans’ and have created a wonderful display sending us all a very strong message. This prompted our School Council members to discuss with their classes what we could all do to help. The children came up with their own actions, and every year group from Reception through to Year 6 had a view on what they would like to do and these ideas were shared with our Breaside Families.
- ‘Cleaning up our beaches’ Every time they go to the beach until they return after the summer holidays, they will collecting rubbish.
- Will be designing posters for around school and the local environment sending the message of ‘Keeping our ocean safe’.
- As they were on their trip today, they will decide next week.
- Recycling our plastic in school and at home and linking with a local recycling organisation.
- Litter monitoring around the school and local environment, and monitoring pollution.
- Use less water and electricity in school and at home and will share a Saving the Coral Reef Powerpoint presentation with school and parents.
- Eco Club – Working on finding a solution! Eco posters around school and writing to the Government regarding shark fishing.
Year 2 Toucans
To enhance their topic on Brazil the Year 2 children studied tropical birds and they created wonderfully bright oil pastel Toucan pictures. These have fluttered into the Year 2 classrooms, Art room and the Hall. They also studied tropical rain forest leaves and flowers and included these in the background.
Well done Year 2 you are all developing into amazing artists!
We are really pleased to welcome all our Breaside families and children back to school! Our main focus as always, will be the wellbeing of our Breaside children. As a school, it is crucial that we allow time for them to reconnect with their friends and teachers, and reintegrate back into school life. Parents, children and of course our Breaside team of staff have all done an amazing job during what has been a difficult year.
What an amazing week it has been in school as we come to the end of Autumn Term 2020 here at Breaside. There has been much laughter and happiness across the whole of the school. It has been a very different Christmas to what we all usually experience, but we feel that we have made it as magical as possible!
Year 4’s Legionary Boot Camp
This term Year 4 are studying the Romans in History, where they have been finding out about the strength of the mighty Roman Army and what life was like for a Roman Legionary. For their half term homework, the children were asked to design and make Roman shields to use in a drill training session. We are happy to announce that all children successfully completed their drill training and are now enrolled in the Roman Army for the next 25 years!
Breaside Global Be Well Day
On Friday 25th September Breaside celebrated our second Global Be Well Day. Across the world, all Cognita schools spend a day away from their normal timetabled lessons and instead focus on their physical and mental wellbeing. The children had a wonderful day learning about mindfulness, the importance of sleep and the power of positivity towards themselves and others. We had fun being active on the playgrounds, we relaxed taking part in a variety of colouring and art activities, meditating, creating worry dolls, and we all ate a very healthy and nutritious lunch. We also learned about the Cognita Active World Challenge and how we are trying to travel (virtually!) to Sao Paulo to visit one of our sister Cognita Schools. Let’s all try and get involved and get active!
As you can see from the photos we all had a wonderful day and learned a lot about how to maintain our wellbeing, a big thank you to all our teachers for making it such a special day!
