ENGLISH YEAR 4
Year 4 follow the programme of study for Key Stage 2 National Curriculum English in the three Attainment Targets.

Reading a class reader aloud in class
Reading and studying a range of set texts, both fiction and non-fiction
Children select books from the library to read to themselves at school and at home, choice monitored by teacher and recorded in Reading Record Book, to be signed by parents

Revision and study of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, speech marks, tenses, plurals, comparison and qualification of adjectives, apostrophes, similes, punctuation of poems, clauses, word classes, capital letters, suffices and prefixes, compound words, spelling strategies, prepositions and conjunctions. Continual monitoring of handwriting.
Spellings set each week, in two groups, co-ordinated with a dictation.
